A while back I was in desperate need of a new car so I started doing some research. I didn’t want anything super fancy and I really didn’t want to buy something brand new – not when the leases could be absolutely ridiculous. When I had found what I was looking for I took down the directions, locked up, activated the home security San Antonio service (I was in Texas, at the time), and took off to the dealer. When I got inside, I was grabbed by the nearest floorwalker only to discover that the price I had seen was the non-negotiable rate.

A lot of places tend to do this sort of thing now, attempting to eliminate haggling from the used car market and, frankly, it can go either way in terms of good or bad ideas. When you eliminate haggling you destroy any anxiety or impetus a customer feels when they walk in, but at the same time you are at the mercy of whatever “generous” discount the dealers are willing to make. That’s why, if you ever find yourself in this situation, it helps to know your stuff. Never deal with a floorwalker, not when the manager can be pulled from his desk, and always make it a point never to pay more than the Kelly Blue Book value. That’s just plain old common sense. And remember, when negotiating for a new car, you need them to think they need you and not the other way around. Even if you NEED a new car, don’t play that up.

It is possible to save huge amounts of money when choosing to purchase a used car. Once a new car leaves the lot, it immediately becomes less valuable. Once it is traded back in, buyers can purchase it for much less. There are some excellent used cars on the market for those that know how to shop.

Many people assume that used cars will have problems. Honestly, all cars will have problems at some point. It is possible to purchase a used car that has a warranty. It is also possible to purchase repair insurance from an outside source. Obviously, you will want to have the car inspected by a mechanic prior to making a purchase. This will alert you to any existing problems.

Do feel free to negotiate the price in order to get a better deal. You may be surprised to see just how much dealers are willing to bend in order to make a sale. It may be easier to haggle with personal sellers, as they have the power to set the price at whatever they wish. However, you should be able to conduct negotiations with car dealerships as well. Ask for the price you want, and you just might receive it.

Buying a used car can offer car shoppers great values and savings, but there are always a few considerations to employ when shopping for such an expensive purchase. Many used cars have suffered damage, undergone extensive repairs and have not benefited from consistent schedule maintenance. Considering these concerns and taking pricing into account, smart consumers can great deals on used cars in good running condition.

One thing to look for when shopping for a used car is water damage. After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, auto salvage and auction companies bought up and resold huge numbers of cars to be shipped to used car dealers across the country, but particularly in the nearby Southeastern states. Water damage such as that suffered by many of the cars shipping from New Orleans can forever ruin the smooth performance of even the best used cars.

High mileage on used cars can be expected. Having been driven for many years, it is only to be expected that used cars may come with considerable miles on their engines and bodies. A crucial element in the continued performance of cars with high mileage is there regularly scheduled maintenance. Used car shoppers would be wise to request records of maintenance throughout the course of the car’s operation.

There are many ways that you can find the best deal on used cars. The first thing that you must do is actually go online and find websites that you can do your research on. Even your local car dealerships will have websites that you can go on to look at their inventory. You always want to find the best used car possible, so you need to consider websites that will give you enough information to make a decision from. Knowing the current mileage, and price of the car is part of the most important information that is helpful in car buying. You will run across millions of used cars, but you can narrow our your choices by using your personal preferences. You should start with a price category, and make your way up to years, and mileage. If you have any knowledge about cars in the first place, then you will be able to make a decision based on what you know. You do not want to buy any car that has many issues.

The main goal of a used car salesman is to get you to buy that car. They use many tricks to get you to commit. One of the most common tricks used by car salemen is the Limited Time Offer. They want you to think this great price is only going to be offered for a very short time, increasing the chance that you will buy today. Highballing is when the salesman offers you a much higher price for your trade-in than you expected. Don’t be fooled they will get that money back in the price of the car you are looking to buy. This tactic is used to get you to come in and buy a car. Knowing the current interest rate will be beneficial to you, some salesmen will try to convince you they can offer a interest rate lower than the current rate, when in fact it’s higher. If you take out a loan with the car dealership, and are given a monthly quote, always do the math yourself, many times the saleman will add a few dollars to the monthly quote making the car more than the quoted price and you never even notice it. Going into a dealership and knowing the tricks will insure you don’t get ripped off.
